Vancouver WA Remodeling Guide | June 2026
Quartz and porcelain countertops deserve a comparison of the complete installation, including edges, cutouts, support, and care—not just a small color sample.
At a glance: Review full-size slab appearance and the fabricator’s proposed details for each material. Compare how the finished edge, sink opening, seams, and daily care will work in your kitchen.
Compare the finished surface
Ask to see the pattern at slab scale and how it will continue across a corner or waterfall edge. A small sample cannot show every variation. Review edge options, exposed cut edges, seam placement, and the appearance around sink and cooktop openings with the fabricator.
Price the same installation
Give each proposal the same dimensions, sink model, backsplash scope, and edge requirements. Ask what supports, access arrangements, removal work, and finishing are included. Follow the selected manufacturer’s care instructions; for example, Cambria recommends protecting its quartz from direct heat rather than treating it as heat-proof.
Selections to compare together
- quartz slabs for low-maintenance family kitchens
- porcelain slabs for heat resistance and a lighter visual profile
- undermount stainless or workstation sinks for better prep space

Questions about countertop selection
Can a countertop sample determine the final appearance?
A sample helps narrow the choice. Review the actual slab or a larger layout view before approving veining, seams, and visible edges.
Should the sink be chosen before fabrication?
Yes. The fabricator needs the actual sink specifications and mounting arrangement to coordinate the opening, support, and nearby faucet placement.
